The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) officially announced on Wednesday (September 8) that the eight esports medal events to debut in the 2022 Asian Games are as follows:
1. Arena of Valor – Asian Games Version
3. Dream Three Kingdoms 2
4. EA Sports FIFA branded soccer games
5. Hearthstone
6. League of Legends
7. PUBG Mobile – Asian Games Version
8. Street Fighter V
Besides the eight medal events, AESF Robot Masters-Powered and AESF VR Sports, both powered by Migu, will be played as demo sports.
Esports was added as a new medal event for the 2022 Asian Games by the OCA last December during its General Assembly in Oman.
Meanwhile, esports was included in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, as a demo event, featuring titles, such as Pro Evolution Soccer 2018, League of Legends, StarCraft II, Hearthstone, Arena of Valor, and Clash Royale. As demo sports, medals won were not counted towards the official tally.
The country dominated Dota 2, Starcraft II, and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, as Sibol, the Philippine national team, bagged three gold medals in the 2019 SEA Games.
