DITO to launch 5G broadband service in Q4 2021
DITO Telecommunity has announced that it is planning to offer 5G fixed wireless service in the fourth quarter of 2021.
“We know that this is the faster way of providing fixed broadband services to the home. Short and medium term, we are going to do the 5G FWA (fixed wireless access) as our means of providing that service, but eventually, we are going to fiber-to-the-home,” said DITO chief technology officer Rodolfo Santiago in a statement.
Meanwhile, DITO chief administrative officer Adel Tamano said that the third telco player so far has amassed 2.6 million subscribers in its first nine months of operations.
Moreover, DITO gets around 20,000 new subscribers every day. The telco expects to reach 6 million subscribers by the end of the year.
Regarding their network coverage, DITO said it is now present in 233 areas. It will expand to 53 more this month, accumulating the total to 286.
DITO passed its second technical audit earlier this month, posting a minimum average broadband speed of 89.13 Mbps and 853.96 Mbps for its 4G and 5G networks, respectively.
