Smart is expecting a triple-digit increase in 5G subscribers across the Philippines over the next few years.
According to Smart, this forecast is based on the accelerated growth of Smart 5G users, which has reached around 800,000 – a 200% increase from the number of Smart 5G subscribers in December 2020.
Moreover, Smart has delivered a three-fold increase in 5G data traffic in the first and second quarters of 2021, contributing to the company’s 39.5 million mobile data users as of end-June, resulting in a double-digit increase in mobile data revenues over the same period last year.
Internet testing company Ookla has recognized Smart as the fastest and most reliable 5G mobile network in the Philippines for Q1 and Q2, with media download and upload speeds twice faster than its closest competitor.
Smart is also the only Philippine telco services provider listed in Opensignal’s 5G Global Leaders for Video Experience, ranked alongside other 5G leaders such as South Korea’s SK Telecom, KT, and LG U+, Thailand’s AIS, and other operators from Croatia, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Taiwan, and United Kingdom.
Besides its 5G network expansion, Smart introduced pioneering 5G services to entice and transfer more data users to 5G, such as its Signature Plans+ with unlimited 5G. Additionally, Smart mentions that they are preparing to offer 5G-ready devices, such as the latest iPhone 13.
