Vietnam SEA Games final schedule for 2022 announced
Organizers of the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam have announced that the regional multi-sport event will run from May 12 to 23, 2022.
The Southeast Asian Games will start three days after the Philippines holds national and local elections on May 9, 2022. Moreover, Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino shared that majority of the athletes, coaches, and officials would be unable to cast their votes.
The Philippine Olympic Committee has already identified a 626-athlete delegation for the upcoming SEA Games, where the Philippines is the overall defending champion.
In addition, POC announced that the Philippines will compete in 39 of the 40 sports featured on the Vietnam games program.
“The main bulk of the delegation will be leaving for Vietnam no less than a week before the opening ceremony,” said Tolentino. “This is because our athletes need to acclimatize and get the feel of the competition venues, environment and weather.”
May is a hot month in Hanoi, Vietnam, with temperatures forecast to reach 34°C. The capital city hosted the SEA Games for the first time in 2003, during a December program marked by cold weather and evening temperatures as low as 11°C.
During the Philippines’ hosting of the 30th SEAG in 2019, the country bagged a total of 387 medals, comprising 149 gold, 117 silver, and 121 bronze.
Furthermore, this will be the second time SEAG competition will hold the Esports category. In the inaugural esports medal event in SEA Games 2019, the country took home three gold medals from PC games Dota 2 and StarCraft II, as well as mobile game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.
