South Korean game developer CCR has announced that it will relaunch its MMORPG “RF Online” with a play-to-earn scheme.
CCR plans to launch a new global server for RF Online, loosely translated “Battle Coin Server,” in the first half of 2022. It will be operated in collaboration with game publishing companies in 34 countries.
The Battle Coin Server will introduce a new “Season Race” system where the max level cap increases and new missions and content appear after each season ends.
Some of the missions are level-up race, enchant race, and mine war race. After completing these missions, players will receive cryptocurrency, such as Bitcoin or Ethereum, via airdrop. After each season, the top players in each race will also receive rewards.
For the uninitiated, RF Online (RF, RFO, or Rising Force Online) is a classic sci-fi fantasy PC MMORPG developed by CCR in 2004. It was launched in the Philippines for the first time in 2006 by game publisher Level Up! Games. Currently, the game is being published by PlayPark.
RF Online takes place on a distant planet in the Novus system, where magic exists together with high technology. It features a three-way Race vs. Race vs. Race (RvRvR) concept, where players can choose a race for their character. The three races are Bellato Union, Holy Alliance Cora, and Accretian Empire.
On the other hand, Netmarble announced in September 2020 that it acquired the rights for RF Online and will develop its mobile version.
Usually, play-to-earn (P2E) games incorporate NFT (non-fungible tokens) in their ecosystem, and they are called NFT games. However, CCR has not revealed any information about NFT.
