Tech giant Microsoft announced in 2021 that Microsoft Edge would be the future of Internet Explorer in Windows. On June 15, 2022, the Internet Explorer 11 desktop application will shut down and no longer receive support.
The web browser was initially released in 1995 as part of the add-on package Plus! for the operating system Windows 95.
Microsoft’s internet browser was subsequently made available to everyone as part of the package for the later version.
Internet Explorer was widely used in the early 2000s, reaching its peak in 2003 with a 95 percent user share.
After that, Internet Explorer experienced a significant decline as it fell behind other browsers such as Google Chrome and Firefox, offering faster speeds, better user interfaces, and a better overall experience.
Microsoft discontinued the development of new features for Internet Explorer (IE) in 2016 in favor of the new Microsoft Edge browser. Internet Explorer 11 is the last and final version released in 2013.
Moreover, Microsoft 365 ended support for IE on August 17, 2021, and Microsoft Teams discontinued support for the web browser on November 30, 2020.
After 27 years of service, the once-popular Internet Explorer will bid farewell. How do you feel about it? Let us know your favorite nostalgic memories when using Internet Explorer by leaving your comment below.
