Electronic Arts (EA) and Maxis have announced that The Sims 4 base game will be free-to-play beginning October 18, 2022, on PC and console platforms.

On the said date, new players can download The Sims 4 for free on PC via the EA app or Origin, Mac via Origin, Steam, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One systems.

According to EA and Maxis, they are more "dedicated than ever" to developing new and meaningful experiences for gamers.

The game companies also added that they "will continue to develop and release packs, kits and Sims Delivery Express drops into the foreseeable future."

The Sims 4 member-exclusive bundles will enter The Play List on October 18 with an upgraded experience for EA Play and EA Play Pro members. The Sims 4 Get To Work Expansion Pack is contained in The Sims 4 EA Play Edition. The Sims 4 Toddler Stuff Pack is contained in The Sims 4 EA Play Pro Edition.

Meanwhile, if you have already purchased the base game, you will receive a small bonus. Those who have bought The Sims 4 prior to October 17 will receive the Desert Luxe Kit, which launches on Wednesday and adds new furniture items based on the natural landscape of the southwestern desert.

The Sims 4, a social simulation game released in 2014, is the fourth major title in The Sims series and the sequel to The Sims 3 (2009). It focuses on its improved character creation and housebuilding tools. Moreover, it features deeper in-game simulation with the new emotion and personality systems for Sims.

On October 18, 2022, The Sims YouTube and Twitch channels will broadcast a special edition of Behind The Sims, in which the team will discuss upcoming content and make additional surprising announcements.
