Mobile app for national ID set to release in 2023 —DICT

The national ID of the Philippines will soon be downloadable on mobile devices, which the public can use while awaiting the delivery of their physical ID, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) revealed.

According to DICT undersecretary Denis Villorente, the mobile app for national ID may be launched in early 2023.

Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and the DICT officials said that this is another way for the PhilSys ID to be more accessible amid delays in the printing and distribution of the physical cards.

"In the next few months, we will be able to provide you a mobile app version of this [national ID]," said Villorente. "You can just download your PhilID into your mobile phone. You don't even need to carry any paper anymore."

As per National Statistician Dennis Mapa, the agency tasked with the printing of identification cards is the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). Currently, they have the capacity to print 80,000 to 100,000 national ID cards every day. To expedite the process, the BSP is working to increase its daily output to 130,000.

Meanwhile, PSA began printing ePhilID through an appointment system. Those who are already registered and possess a PSN can obtain an ePhilID at PSA locations nationwide. Although printed on paper, it is considered a valid ID, and it can be laminated, according to officials.
