Riot Games announces plans for Wild Rift Esports for 2023

League of Legends: Wild Rift developer Riot Games has announced its plans for Wild Rift Esports for 2023.

According to John Needham, President of Esports at Riot Games, they "will centralize the operation and focus of Wild Rift Esports in Asia" in 2023, citing that the region is "the biggest and most active mobile esports market in the world."

That being said, the new Wild Rift league in Asia will replace the original Wild Rift Esports (WRE) in April 2023.

Therefore, Wild Rift Asia League will be the first Riot cross-regional professional mobile esports league. With this move, however, all other regions outside Asia won't be included for next season.

In 2023, the new league ecosystem will be comprised of twelve teams from China's Wild Rift League (WRL) and eight teams from other Asian regions, with splits occurring twice annually.

Needham also added that they would "unlock the opportunity for third parties to host events" in regions outside Asia to give them the time to "grow organically".
