Is PLDT down? How to check PLDT's internet connection status

PLDT is one of the Philippines' major internet service providers. Among its services are PLDT Home Fiber Unli, Fiber Plus, PLDT DSL, and Cignal TV.

Customers with PLDT expect internet and landline services to be working at all times of the day without fail, but sometimes that doesn't happen. You experience intermittent connection or no internet connection at all. PLDT service outages can occur when you least expect it, leaving you thinking, 'is PLDT down?'

Usually, PLDT sends a text message to its subscribers via their registered mobile numbers when their technical team will perform scheduled maintenance in a specific area. The service advisory includes the duration of the activity. During the maintenance, customers may experience degraded services. Users are also advised to restart their modems after the activity.

However, sometimes the issue is not with PLDT. It's with your devices or connections. In this article, you'll learn how to check for outages across the PLDT network and troubleshoot common internet problems on your end.

How to Check PLDT's Internet Connection Status

The following are the ways to check if the PLDT internet is down.

1. To know if your account is part of service interruption, go to the PLDT Tracker website (pldthome.com/pldt-tracker), and enter your landline number with the area code.

2. Another way to check the status of your PLDT account is via SMS. Text TRACK(space)area code + your telephone number and send it to 8171 for Smart, TNT, and Sun Cellular for free, or 0970 0000 171 for other networks (standard rates may apply).

Sample text format:
TRACK 0281234567
Send the message to 8171 (for Smart/TNT/Sun) or 09700000171 (for Globe/TM/GOMO/DITO)

You will then receive an SMS in your inbox from PLDT, informing you whether you're area is part of an internet outage.

3. Search Twitter for #PLDTdown. Timestamps on tweets will indicate whether other subscribers are experiencing the same issue. Check also PLDT's Twitter handles (@PLDT_Cares, @PLDTHome, and @pldt) to see if they are providing any information.

4. Check the official Facebook pages of PLDT (PLDT Cares, PLDT Home, and PLDT). If there's a large-scale network outage, PLDT might address it on these pages.

5. Use a third-party "service monitoring" website like Downdetector or Outage Report. These websites provide immediate information about outages reported by customers, as well as coverage maps and other data that detect the exact location of problems.

How to Troubleshoot Your PLDT Internet Connection

If no one else appears to be reporting an outage, the issue is most likely on your end. Below are troubleshooting tips you can try to restore your internet connection.

1. Make sure your PLDT account has no unpaid bills. You can check your PLDT bills online or via SMS to know whether you have an outstanding balance.

2. Power cycle your router. Turn the modem on for five minutes and then back on. Sometimes, a simple reboot of your PLDT modem can resolve the problem.

3. Check carefully for loose cables. Make sure that the cables (Power adapter, LAN, and patch cord) are properly connected to the modem.

4. Check the LED light indicators of your PLDT Home Fiber modem. They should look something like this.

PLDT modem LED light indicators (normal state)

For the normal state of the modem, light indicators such as Power, PON, LAN, VoIP, Phone, and WiFi should be in green color.
