Ookla has revealed its Speedtest Global Index report for January 2023, indicating that the Philippines' internet rank has moved two spots up in Fixed Broadband and decreased two positions in Mobile.
The country ranked 41st globally in the Fixed Broadband category, recording an average median download speed of 88.13 Mbps. The average upload speed was registered at 86.14 Mbps, and the average latency was 6 ms. Compared to the December 2022 charts, which listed average download and upload speeds of 87.13 Mbps and 84.78 Mbps, respectively, both metrics saw an improvement.
Meanwhile, in the Mobile category, the Philippines ranked 82nd, posting an average of 24.59 Mbps median download speed. The average upload speed and latency were recorded at 6.04 Mbps and 23 ms, respectively. This month's download and upload record shows a slight drop compared to the previous month's results of 25.12 Mbps and 6.15 Mbps, respectively.
Regarding global median speeds for January 2023, the average download speed for mobile is 37.98 Mbps, while for fixed broadband is 76.34 Mbps.
United Arab Emirates (UAE) secured the top spot in the mobile internet speed charts worldwide, recording an average speed of 161.15 Mbps. Meanwhile, Singapore placed first in the fixed broadband category, with an average of 234.55 Mbps download speeds.
The Speedtest Global Index for January 2023 includes 138 countries for Mobile and 179 for Fixed Broadband.
For the uninitiated, Speedtest Global Index results are based on the median download speed in order to more precisely reflect the internet speeds a user can achieve in a given market, as per Ookla, an analytics firm.
