Globe, most consistent mobile network in PH: Ookla Q1 2023

Globe had the highest Consistency score among telcos in the Philippines during Q1 2023, according to Ookla's Internet Performance Report.

Globe emerged as the Most Reliable Mobile Network in the country for the fourth straight quarter. Based on Ookla Speedtest Intelligence Q1 2023 data, Globe Telecom continued to dominate the industry, achieving the highest consistency scores since the second quarter of last year.

Reliability is a coveted award in the industry, with only a handful of telecom providers worldwide receiving this rating. It is also the most desired network performance attribute that has a direct impact on the consumer experience.

The report released by Ookla revealed that Globe earned the highest All Technology Consistency Score of 83.39 percent in the first quarter of 2023, up from the 83.13 percent it achieved in the fourth quarter of last year. Rival networks Smart and DITO followed with 81.52 percent and 75.10 percent, respectively.

Likewise, Globe was recognized as the Most Consistent Broadband in several provinces in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. It recorded a consistency score of 85.01 in Pampanga, 69.68 percent in Antique, 66.13 percent in Samar, 65.91 percent in Lanao del Sur, 60.42 percent in Leyte, and 59.46 percent in Eastern Visayas.

For the uninitiated, the Consistency score is based on the percentage of a provider's data samples that meet the minimum 5 Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload thresholds for mobile networks and 25 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload thresholds for fixed networks, respectively.

Globe also dominated All Technology Availability in the first quarter of 2023, scoring 93.18 percent, up from 92.38 percent in the fourth quarter of 2022. Its score outperformed competitors with 91.88 percent and 91.64 percent, respectively.

Based on Android device coverage scans, Availability identifies the network on which users spend the greatest percentage of their time across all technologies.

Moreover, Globe is the fastest 5G mobile network in Makati City with a median download speed of 171.81 Mbps, Cagayan de Oro City with 159.298 Mbps, Misamis Oriental with 157.795 Mbps, and Zamboanga with 99.9 Mbps, according to Ookla.

86 percent of Globe's capital expenditures in 2022 were allocated to data requirements. Last year, Globe constructed 1,702 new cell sites, upgraded 13,600 mobile sites, and installed 2,267 5G cell towers.
