PLDT has been the fastest internet service provider (ISP) in the Philippines for five straight years, according to Ookla.
In a press release, global benchmarking company Ookla announced that PLDT earned a top speed score of 86.52 in 2022 to win the award (Speedtest Awards - Fastest Internet - 5 Years in a Row).
To recall, the Speed Score of PLDT was 77.91, dominating three other rival telcos.
PLDT said that the five-peat win could be attributed to their "aggressive network expansion and drive to lift the quality of customer experience."
This is PLDT's fifth consecutive win, a rare five-peat and a first in the Philippines. Only ViewQWest of Singapore has held this distinction in Southeast Asia.
In 2022, the telco registered 6.08 million fiber-powered ports, covering approximately 17,700 barangays nationwide. Moreover, 68 percent of the country's cities and municipalities are now covered by PLDT's fiber network, which now extends 1.1 million kilometers and has reached 17.2 million homes.
Further, PLDT boasts that it is the only telecommunications provider in the country to offer speeds of up to 10 Gbps. Only USA, South Korea, Norway, Japan, New Zealand, and Italy provide this level of residential broadband bandwidth.
On top of that, PLDT added 1.1 million new home fiber subscribers by the end of 2022, capturing 59 percent of the industry growth in fiber customers for 2022. This brought the total number of PLDT Home fiber subscribers to 2.9 million.
In February 2023, the telco also offered an up to 2x free speed boost for PLDT Fiber Unli and Fiber Plus plans.
