DITO's plans for 2023: Postpaid, Enterprise, satellite tech

DITO Telecommunity has several plans for 2023, including launching postpaid and enterprise products and satellite internet service.

The Philippines' third major telco player is set to launch its postpaid and enterprise plans in June 2023.

Adel Tamano, DITO's Chief Administrative Officer, stated that they could take advantage of their partnership with China Telecom, a state-owned telco.

He added that "some best phones are being manufactured in China," and they "will leverage the relationship." With their postpaid push, he also hopes that they can "offer cheap phones to the public."

On the other hand, DITO also aims to conduct pilot testing for satellite technology in 2023 as the telco expands its reach across the country, including remote areas that don't have internet access.

According to Rodolfo Santiago, DITO's Chief Technology Officer, the company has signed a deal to pilot-test a low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite.

This deal was inked with OneWeb Network Access Associates Limited, a broadband satellite communications company based in London.

Santiago is "expecting it to be finalized as soon as possible" and noted that their "talks with them are already in the advanced stage."

Santiago also said that LEO technology has better connectivity due to its lower latency and higher capacity.

Moreover, Santiago has cited that this satellite internet service will be helpful, especially to Autonomous regions in Mindanao, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.
