Netflix Philippines has started its password-sharing crackdown as it rolled out an update on sharing an account outside a household.
Netflix said in a statement:
A Netflix account is for use by one household. Everyone living in that household can use Netflix wherever they are — at home, on the go, on holiday — and take advantage of new features like Transfer Profile and Manage Access and Devices.
As part of a long-planned effort to restrict password sharing, the streaming video platform has begun sending emails to all PH subscribers who share their passwords with members outside their households.
"Your Netflix account is for you and the people you live with — your household," read the email, along with options for sharing a Netflix account.
If you're sharing your Netflix account with someone outside your household, you will be charged an additional PHP 149 monthly fee for the extra member.
If you don't wish additional fees, you can transfer your profile to a new membership, for which they will have to pay.
According to the plans and pricing of Netflix Philippines, the Standard and Premium plans include the feature of adding extra members.
