Globe Telecom revealed that it is the first telco in the Philippines to successfully deploy 5G Voice over New Radio (VoNR).
This historic accomplishment was highlighted at the recent Technology and Innovations Day, themed INNOVANIA, and held at The Globe Tower.
The event, which was organized by the company's Network Strategy and Service Planning team under the Network Technical Group, provided an interactive venue for Globe experts and vendor partners. Together, they unveiled a dynamic array of cutting-edge technologies and groundbreaking innovations that promise to generate substantial benefits for both the company and its customers. At the event, VoNR was one of the emerging solutions presented and demonstrated live.
Globe's dedicated technical experts, solutions architect, and trusted technology partner HPE Singapore collaborated on the groundbreaking VoNR call using their 5G in a Box solution. It was initiated using an HPE-supplied VoNR-capable mobile device.
VoNR is an innovative voice solution constructed on a 5G standalone network that promises improved voice quality, rapid call setup, and seamless handovers. It raises the bar for voice communication by providing audio with minimal distortion, optimized bandwidth utilization, and seamless simultaneous voice and data transmission.
According to Globe, the capabilities of VoNR are derived from its "lower latency," which results in shorter call setup periods and faster call connections, thereby enabling more simultaneous voice calls within a given network.
