Smart is PH's Fastest, Best Network: Ookla Q1-Q2 2023

Smart dominates the Philippine telco after earning Ookla's Best Mobile Network, Best Mobile Coverage, and Fastest Mobile Network awards for Q1-Q2 2023.

This is a remarkable milestone for Smart Communications as this is their third consecutive time receiving the said awards.

According to Ookla's most recent analysis for Q1-Q2 2023, Smart has continued to provide customers with the fastest mobile speeds and best mobile coverage, earning the "Best Mobile Network" award, a prestigious honor for mobile operators worldwide.

To recall, during Q1-Q2 2022, Smart was the first and only mobile operator in the Philippines to receive Ookla's "Best Mobile Network" award. The company's success persisted throughout Q3-Q4 2022 and Q1-Q2 2023.

With a Speed Score of 64.25, Smart emerged as the "Fastest Mobile Network" for H1 2023, while its closest rival, Globe Telecom, posted a Speed Score of 39.04.

For this Speed Score, Smart recorded median download and upload speeds of 34.08 Mbps and 7.34 Mbps, respectively. In contrast, its closest competitor posted median download and upload speeds of 22.52Mbps and 5.38Mbps, respectively.

Moreover, the "Best Mobile Coverage" category for H1 2023 was won by Smart with a Coverage Score of 786, beating its closest competitor, Globe, with a Coverage Score of 769. According to Ookla, the Coverage Score measures both the number of locations where an operator offers service and the quality of service in each location.

The "Fastest Mobile Network" award is based on over 2.4 million user-initiated tests, while the "Best Mobile Coverage" award is based on more than 3.7 million scan counts.

Smart's mobile network efficacy is supported by PLDT and Smart's combined fixed and wireless networks. PLDT's total fiber footprint exceeded 1.1 million kilometers as of March 2023, including over 231,000 km of international fiber and over 874,000 km of domestic fiber. Further, this fiber infrastructure supports Smart's 2G, 3G, 4G/LTE, and 5G networks, which cover 97% of the country's population as of March 2023.
