Plans for Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) 2024 unveiled

Riot Games has revealed its plans for the Valorant Challengers Tour (VCT) 2024 season, detailing the changes and enhancements coming to the esport.

According to Riot Games, next year will see the debut of a new international league, the expansion of developmental circuits to year-round competition, and the arrival of global events in new locations.

Leo Faria, Global Head of VALORANT Esports, said:
We're extremely proud of what we accomplished this year, in particular how our teams stepped up to promote the sport and their players, and we’re eager to unlock more opportunities in 2024 to highlight the best in the game. We're making changes to the season design and scope of our events for better progression, expanding our global footprint, and creating new ways for players and fans to experience VALORANT.

Here are the series of changes and enhancements coming to the VCT 2024 season that will elevate the sport for its fourth year of operation.

A New Start to the Season Kickoff

In 2024, the season will get off to a new start with a two-week event in each International League. This new tournament will narrow down the field to 8 teams that will battle it out at the Masters Madrid, the first global event of the season. This event will be the first time that a global VCT is held in Spain. It will make it clear which team is the best at the end of the year.

Challengers: The Path to Pro Continues

Challengers, which is where many aspiring esports stars start out, will change even more in the coming year. Building on its recent success, the Challengers schedule is going to grow and run all year long to offer more competition in tier 2 competition. Challengers will also have an innovative team affiliation and player loan system. This will make it easier for players to move between the International Leagues, Challengers, and Game Changers. Also, the new Premier mode will be the starting point for players who want to go pro in VALORANT, giving them a way to join the VCT right from the game.

Unprecedented Growth and the Ascension of New Teams

In the VCT 2024 season, there will be a record amount of top teams in the top tier of competition, which will change what the top of the sport means. As the Ascensions event comes to a close, three winning teams come out of the Challengers. They have earned the right to play in the International Leagues in 2024. After a year of tough competition, The Guard, Gentle Mates, and Bleed Esports won and secured a two-year promotion into the international leagues.

Embracing Change: Championship Points

With the addition of Champions Points, the season structure will change in the coming year. Championship Points is set to be the unifying mechanism across International Leagues and Global Tournaments. They will be a measure of each team's performance and a way for teams to qualify for global events. This will make the season's climax stronger.

Unveiling China: Fourth Official League

As China joins the Americas, EMEA, and Pacific as the fourth official league in VCT, competitions will be able to take place in more regions. VALORANT wants to be the most global esport in the world, and this huge addition shows that they value the potential and efforts of the Chinese community. In addition to the new league, the second Masters event of the season will be held in Shanghai. Twelve teams will compete for Championship Points and a spot in the Champions event.
