Team Spirit swept Gaimin Gladiators 3-0 in the Dota 2 The International (TI) 2023 grand finals to clinch their second Aegis of Champions.
To recall, Eastern European Team Spirit won The International 10 (TI 10) back in 2021, where they defeated Chinese powerhouse PSG.LGD, 3-2, in the finals.
With their win in TI 12, Team Spirit bagged the grand prize of USD 1.4 million. It also makes Team Spirit the second Dota 2 team to become two-time TI champions, joining OG, who won TI8 and TI9. While OG achieved a double victory with the same roster, Team Spirit experienced lineup changes between their two wins.
Team Spirit started the best-of-five TI 2023 Grand Finals strong with a convincing win in just 33 minutes, followed by another dominant victory in 42 minutes. In game three, the Gaimin Gladiators put up a strong challenge and looked like they might turn the tables. However, Team Spirit managed to make a comeback and secured a sweep after a 42-minute match.
Meanwhile, Gaimin Gladiators settled for second place at TI 2023 and earned USD 379K in consolation.
