The Speedtest Global Index report for January 2024 has been released by Ookla, indicating that the Philippines' internet rank has moved two spots down in Fixed Broadband and decreased one position in Mobile.
The country ranked 51st globally in the Fixed Broadband category, recording an average median download speed of 93.31 Mbps. The average upload speed was posted at 93.05 Mbps, and the average latency was 6 ms.
In the Mobile category, the Philippines ranked 87th, registering an average download speed of 28.00 Mbps. The average upload speed and latency were registered at 7.05 Mbps and 22 ms, respectively.
Compared to the December 2023 charts, the performance of the internet in the country saw no improvement in either Mobile or Fixed Broadband.
Regarding global median speeds, the average download speed for Fixed Broadband is 91.93 Mbps, while the average for Mobile is 50.00 Mbps.
United Arab Emirates (UAE) recorded the fastest mobile internet speed in the world, with an average download speed of 302.38 Mbps. Meanwhile, Singapore ranked first in the fixed broadband category, recording an average download speed of 277.57 Mbps.
The Speedtest Global Index for January 2024 includes 144 countries for Mobile and 181 for Fixed Broadband.
It's important to note that Ookla's Speedtest Global Index uses the median download speed to give a better idea of the actual internet speeds that can be achieved. To be included in either the mobile or fixed broadband category, a location must have at least 300 unique user results.
