PH tops 5G SA speed in emerging APAC: Ookla Q2 2024

According to Ookla's Speedtest data for Q2 2024, the Philippines topped 5G SA download speed in the emerging Asian Pacific region. Check out the details of the report below.

Ookla, an internet analytics firm, has tracked 5G Standalone (SA) network deployments and 5G SA service adoption, as well as its impact on network performance since Q2 2023. This analysis, based on Speedtest Intelligence data, highlights key regions and countries with notable advancements in 5G SA infrastructure.

India is leading the way in the emerging Asian Pacific region's fast growth of 5G SA networks. However, the Philippines had the fastest 5G SA download speeds in the area.

Here's the 5G Standalone network performance in select countries in emerging Asia Pacific based on Ookla's recent Speedtest Intelligence report. All are recorded in median download speed.

375.40 Mbps is the median 5G SA download speed in the Philippines, which surpasses India and Thailand, according to Ookla's Speedtest data for Q2 2024.

Globe, the first telco in the Philippines to launch 5G Non-Standalone (NSA), has expanded its 5G outdoor coverage to 97.44 percent of the capital by the end of H1 2023. The same year, the mobile operator implemented network slicing and 5G SA private networks.

  • In Asia Pacific, the Philippines surpasses both India and Thailand with a median 5G SA download speed of 375.40 Mbps.
