DITO Telecommunity has joined forces with ZTE Corporation to redefine the local telecommunication industry through a groundbreaking enhancement to the Philippines' mobile connectivity landscape.
This exciting partnership will pilot implementation of the TDD Massive MIMO technology in key high-traffic areas that have shown promising results, demonstrating how this technology can address surging connectivity needs while supporting DITO's rapid growth and its mission to provide reliable and accessible mobile services to over 13 million users nationwide.
In 2024, DITO conducted a thorough assessment of TDD Massive MIMO technologies, comparing 64T64R, 8T8R, and other configurations. The 32T32R solution was determined to be the superior option following a comprehensive analysis, as it provided remarkable performance and cost efficiency.
Here are the results of the 32T32R deployment compared to the 8T8R:
- 99 percent improvement in spectrum efficiency
- 92 percent increase in average cell traffic volume
- 75 percent growth in average connected users
This initial deployment was led by Mr. Vincent Zhou, DITO wireless and network planning senior advisor, and assisted by ZTE. With fast delivery and installation, the two companies launched the pilot site in high-demand areas.
The transformative impact of time division duplex (TDD)-based massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) on the enhancement of 4G network capacity while ensuring cost-effectiveness is underscored by these game-changing results.
Meanwhile, DITO and ZTE are expanding the 32T32R commercial deployment after the pilot's success. This approach will reduce traffic in high-traffic locations and help DITO meet Filipinos' expanding connectivity needs. The expanded network will boost spectrum utilization, user experiences, and the telco's revenue and service goals.
