The One UI 7 beta, recently announced by the South Korean tech behemoth Samsung, was reportedly released in early December 2024 for certain countries, including the United States, Germany, India, South Korea, Poland, and the UK, for Galaxy S24 series devices. This beta version of the latest operating system update by Samsung based on Android 15 and powered by Galaxy AI will, however, reportedly reach the Philippines in early 2025.
A new notification system known as Now Bar is one of the highlights of the OS update. It is purported to improve personalization by providing direct access to the most frequently used and daily actions on the screen. A summarization feature that is powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and a privacy-focused integration for cross-app personal data protection are among the features that the company has now detailed.
Features of Now Bar
Samsung has revealed that Now Bar will utilize Galaxy AI, a collection of AI capabilities that are available on its devices. It is the company's own version of Apple's Dynamic Island. However, the Now Bar will be at the bottom of the screen instead of at the top.
As a key feature in One UI 7, Now Bar makes personalizing your phone easier by bringing together your daily activities and favorite apps on your lock screen. With this new function, you can control your entertainment, time your workouts, get directions to meetings, or communicate in different languages.
Further, Now Bar will provide eligible Samsung users with a morning brief that includes weather forecasts, reminders for tasks such as catching a flight, a curated playlist for travel, and currency conversions. Additionally, it will keep users notified of their sleep cycle. It is capable of accessing data from multiple mobile applications and providing a concise summary for effortless browsing.
Samsung asserts that the Now Bar can serve as an entry point to the "most comprehensively insightful experiences ever on Galaxy." It provided an example illustrating a user's journey from South Korea to California. The Galaxy AI-powered phone will provide the option to generate a folder containing the most important applications for easy access during travel. Additionally, it will serve as a reminder to depart for the airport and compile a travel playlist for the lengthy flight.
Besides personalization in One UI 7 skin, Samsung also introduces various privacy-focused enhancements. Among these is the Personal Data Engine with One UI 7, which is purported to provide cross-app personal data protection as an on-device privacy measure.
Knox Vault manages an encryption key that ensures the security of personalized data, which is stored in a secure location. This is the same reputable platform that is employed to protect the most sensitive information on your smartphone, including your biometric data. Post-quantum cryptography also serves as an additional layer of protection by future-proofing the security of your data against the increasing threat of quantum computing.
