Business Model and Post-Launch Plans
Dune: Awakening's Creative Director, Joel Bylos, explained the game's business model and post-launch plans in a video to inform gamers before their purchase decisions.
In a nutshell, when Dune: Awakening launches on May 20, 2025:
- The game will have a full launch, not an Early Access release.
- There will be no subscription.
- The developer will add new content and features through free updates.
- The game will use a classic business model with optional downloadable content (DLC).
Funcom has a long history of developing and supporting live video games, with several MMOs still running (Anarchy Online turns 25 next year). DLCs, expansions, and free updates have kept Conan Exiles updated for eight years. Dune: Awakening will receive free updates with new content, features, and improvements.
Game Editions
Dune: Awakening's standard edition costs USD 49.99, but the Deluxe Edition (USD 69.99) and Ultimate Edition (USD 89.99) give a 5-day head start and exclusive items. The Deluxe and Ultimate editions also include a Season Pass that unlocks four DLCs, the first upon launch.

Players are chased by the Sardaukar, an elite military unit, and the Deluxe Edition includes their terrifying equipment. The Ultimate Edition includes everything above: Paul Atreides' 2021 film stillsuit, a digital artbook, unique color patterns, a digital soundtrack, and the Caladan Palace Set with building pieces, decorations, and placeables.

Moreover, players who pre-order any edition, including standard, will receive a universal color pattern for vehicles, weapons, and armor and the Terrarium of Muad'Dib, an in-base decoration featuring the desert mouse.
