YouTube Shopping Launches in PH With Affiliate Program

YouTube Shopping Launches in PH With Affiliate Program

Video platform YouTube has partnered with e-commerce firm Shopee to bring YouTube Shopping to the Philippines and five other Southeast Asian countries. The Accelerator Affiliate Program is also now available, giving more opportunities for content creators, or what we usually call YouTubers, to earn money.

YouTube Shopping: How It Works

Viewers can now easily find and buy their favorite products while watching YouTube videos. Product tagging lets you purchase items from videos, Shorts, and livestreams without clicking long links or switching apps. Creator-tagged products will appear in a designated section under the video, and upon tapping, it will redirect consumers to Shopee for the checkout process.

Further, the launch of YouTube Shopping provides new monetization outlets for Filipino YouTubers through the affiliate program. Eligible creators who tag and feature products in their content can earn commissions from sales. Product highlights are also possible during livestreams.

YouTube Shopping Affiliate Program: Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible, a Philippines-based content creator's channel must follow these criteria:
  • Must be part of the YouTube Partner Program (YPP)
  • Must have over 10,000 subscribers
  • Must not be a music channel
  • Must not be set as "Made for Kids" and does not have significant Made for Kids content
  • Must not have active Community Guidelines strikes

YouTube Shopping Affiliate Program: How To Join

Creators who qualify can open 'YouTube Studio', click 'Earn' > 'Get Started' > 'Turn On', and review and accept the Terms of Service.

Users can now tag products in YouTube Studio from an expanding range of sellers.

Creators can connect their online shop to YouTube to feature products in video descriptions, shelves, and channel store tabs. Moreover, they can tag up to 60 items in videos or Shorts and 30 in livestreams. Pin products during live streaming to display them.

The platform lets content creators manually or automatically organize channel or video product displays by price, popularity, and availability.

Track product performance with YouTube Studio's Shopping feature. Users can get detailed reports from YouTube Analytics for more revenue information.

Further, the creator must observe YouTube's paid product placement policies if their videos contain paid product placements, sponsorships, endorsements, or other content that needs disclosure.
