Mobile Legends: PH gets 2 slots in MWI at 2025 EWC

Two slots are allotted to the Philippines in the upcoming Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Women's Invitational (MWI), part of the 2025 Esports World Cup (EWC), MOONTON Games revealed.

MLBB developer has announced the slot allocation of MWI at EWC 25 for a record-breaking 16 teams, featuring the largest lineup yet, including new regions: Africa, Mongolia, and Türkiye.

Scheduled for July 15 to 19, MWI 2025 will highlight Mobile Legends esports as a platform for inclusivity and global empowerment of women esports athletes.

The USD 500,000 prize pool for MWI at EWC 25 will be among the largest in the history of women's esports. Qualifying regions are now 57 (from 46). There are now 16 competing squads, up from 12.

To recap, MWI 2024 marked a significant moment in esports as the only women's tournament at last year's inaugural EWC, featuring teams from outside Southeast Asia (SEA). It gained over 2.5 million hours watched, becoming the most-watched edition, according to Esports Charts. Filipino squad Smart Omega Empress made history by defeating Team Vitality, ending the Indonesians' 24-match winning streak since 2021. This highlights MWI as a competitive platform for women athletes to challenge boundaries in esports.

Ray Ng, Moonton's head of the esports ecosystem, stated:
At MOONTON Games, we believe that everyone has a place in esports. MWI at EWC 25 is our way of making sure women are seen, heard, and celebrated. The tournament serves as a platform for women to shine at the highest level and opens the door to esports as a viable career path. As we expand the tournament's reach, we're amplifying the voices of women worldwide. This is how we empower women esports athletes—by advancing the women's ecosystem and breaking down barriers.

In 2024, MOONTON Games demonstrated its commitment to inclusivity by hosting key women's esports tournaments: MWI, Asian Esports Games (AEG), and IESF World Esports Championship (WEC). These events allowed women esports athletes to compete at high levels and gain international recognition. This momentum continues in 2025 with the MWI at EWC 25 and the 33rd Southeast Asian Games.

Ray Ng added:
We've always aimed to make our tournaments reflect the diversity of the MLBB community. Like how the MLBB Mid Season Cup (MSC) at EWC 25 will now include more regions, we're doing the same for MWI at EWC 2025 because women's and men's esports should stand on equal ground. MOONTON Games is committed to building an ecosystem where every esports athlete can thrive and represent their region with pride.

Reigning MWI champions Omega Empress, now acquired by Natus Vincere (NAVI), are currently battling it out at Athena League, a PH qualifier tournament, to get a slot in the MWI 2025. – PinoyTechSaga
