In its continuing efforts to contribute to the shaping of the country's digital future, Globe Telecom has introduced the live pilot trial of 5G-Advanced (or 5.5G), the first in the Philippines. The trial brings the company a step closer toward bringing 5G experience to Filipinos and further solidifies its position as the leader in mobile and 5G technology and innovation.
Conducted at Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig, the pilot test was meant to showcase the reached peak speed and potential use cases of 5G-Advanced across various applications, whether on the consumer level or in enterprise-level applications.

In the pilot test, Globe achieved a peak download throughput of ~2.5 Gbps, demonstrating the potential of 5G-Advanced for improved speeds, reliability, capacity, and differentiated service offerings in comparison to current 5G networks.
The initiative used a 5G Stand-alone (SA) network with Massive MIMO and Carrier Aggregation of three 5G/NR Component Carriers (3NRCA) for 210MHz bandwidth. This technical breakthrough allows multi-gigabit speeds for seamless user experiences, from super-fast downloads to immersive, lag-free cloud gaming, with a 5G-SA capable smartphone.
Carl Cruz, Globe president and CEO, said:
Globe has consistently demonstrated its commitment to technological leadership, always standing at the forefront of enabling telecommunications technology in the Philippines. We continue to introduce and implement cutting-edge innovations that redefine connectivity and empower Filipinos.
The next step in mobile evolution, 5.5G, was developed to fulfill the needs of a more connected world. It supports Advanced Internet of Things (IIoT), Extended reality (XR), connected and autonomous cars, and AI/ML applications with smarter and faster capabilities.
The 5G-Advanced rollout is proceeding globally. A May 2025 Global Mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) report found that six telco operators have commercially launched services and 20 are evaluating, planning, or trialing the technology. Singtel (Singapore) and AIS (Thailand) lead Southeast Asia with 5G+ networks. Globe's first live pilot experiment in the Philippines shows its dedication to digital technology and Filipino connectivity.
