On August 27, 2025, Riot Games will launch League of Legends Season 3 along with Patch 25.17. To my fellow LoL players, this is the big update that we all have been waiting for. The exhilarating Doom Bots mode will return after a long time, and this time it comes with a set of updates.
Along with Doom Bots, the latest LoL Patch 25.17 features updates across champions, a visual update to Xin Zhao, new skins, and more gameplay enhancements.
LoL Season 3 Overview
Season 3 of League of Legends unites storylines from Spirit Blossom Beyond to Welcome to Noxus, while introducing updates inspired by Arcane characters, bridging the worlds of the show and the game. Yunara, Atakhan, Xin Zhao, and LeBlanc are crucial to the seasonal story.
The new season also prepares for LoL Worlds 2025, the MOBA's biggest tournament, which returns to China for its 15th anniversary. Matches start in Beijing on October 14. Finals of the League of Legends World Championship will be held in Chengdu on November 9.
On October 10, 2025, the LoL Worlds Anthem will be released, honoring talented professional League players from its competitive history.
LoL Season 3 (2025) - Gameplay Updates
Here are some highlights we can expect from the upcoming League Patch 25.17.
- Xin Zhao VU
- This season, one of League's longest-running champions, Xin Zhao, gets a full visual update.
- Although his gameplay is intact, all of his skins have been upgraded.
- Patches 25.17 and 25.18 will include Xin Zhao's vaulted skins.
- Commando and Imperial Xin Zhao (from RP 520 to 750) have been improved. These legacy skins will remain at their current price until Patch 25.17, when the visual overhaul launches.
- Later in Act 1, Xin Zhao will get an Epic skin.

- Quality-of-Life Enhancements
- Improved game info tracking will be implemented, with similar updates expected for later this year:
- Each jungle camp will have timers.
- Death recap screens make summoner spell usage easier to track.
- Doom Bots
- Doom Bots is coming back to League of Legends with new updates a decade after its initial launch.
- The updated game mode will incorporate a new difficulty mode, a new boss, new bots, curses, and missions. Fans will say goodbye to Little Devil Teemo as Fright Night Veigar takes over chaos.
- Trials of Doom, a fresh set of challenges each patch, also debuts this season. These trials include stacking curses and using Veigar's passive to give Doom Bots an edge.

- WASD Controls
- LoL will test WASD mobility as an optional alternative to point-and-click controls to make controls more intuitive for new and returning players.
- WASD will launch on PBE in a few patches, then to non-Ranked queues and Ranked.
- WASD and point-and-click control will be regularly evaluated to ensure neither has a competitive advantage.
- Player Behavior
- Smurfing (boosting and hitchhiking) will be punished in Patch 25.18.
- Multiple account offenses will result in action against all offending parties.
- Botted, sold, purchased, or shared accounts will be punished.
- Vanguard's increased detection and player-submitted "Rank Manipulation" reports underpin these efforts.
- Good-faith alternate (alt) accounts are unaffected.
- For long-term game quality, Riot is increasing True Skill 2 tests, a new matchmaking system that improves Matchmaking Rating (MMR) accuracy and placement speed.
Other Updates
Sylas and Mel will have new Prestige Skins in the Mythic Shop, while Jarvan IV and Zoe will have them in the Act 1 and Act 2 Passes. In September 2025, T1's 2024 Worlds Winner skins will be released.
As of August 4, 2025, players with Viktor Mastery Level 5+ will receive a free Machine Herald Viktor in Patch 25.19, and various emotes and icons that were previously exclusively earned by completing TFT Passes will be back in the Mythic Shop.
Among the new content of LoL Patch 25.17, Doom Bots is the one that really excites me. – PinoyTechSaga
