Internet testing firm Ookla has released its latest Speedtest Global Index for September 2021, noting that the Philippines’ rank has increased one position for mobile download speeds and down by one spot in fixed broadband speeds.
The Philippines is now at rank 72 globally for the Mobile category, posting an average download speed of 35.03 Mbps. The mobile upload speed was posted at 8.54 Mbps, while 32 ms is the average latency. Compared to the August ranking of 73rd that listed an average download of 33.77 Mbps, 8.63 Mbps for upload, and latency of 30ms, only the download speed has improved.
For the Fixed Broadband category, the country went down by one place, now at 64th, recording an average of 71.85 Mbps download speeds. The upload speed and latency were logged at 70.32 Mbps and 19 ms, respectively. Fixed internet’s overall performance for September has slightly decreased compared to the previous month’s record of 72.56 Mbps (download), 72.16 Mbps (upload), and 19 ms (latency).
The consistent rank 1 in the mobile internet category, UAE recorded an average speed of 238.06 Mbps. Meanwhile, Monaco has regained its top position for fixed broadband, registering an average of 261.82 Mbps download speeds.
The Speedtest Global Index for September 2021 includes 138 countries for mobile and 181 countries for fixed internet.
The Speedtest platform, developed by network diagnostics company Ookla, compares data on internet speed across the globe based on millions of tests conducted monthly.
Regarding the Speedtest Global Index report, Ookla noted that they consider at least 300 unique user results for mobile data or fixed broadband in each category to be ranked, utilizing a massive testing infrastructure comprised of over 10,000 servers in over 190 countries.
