Axie Infinity has released a statement confirming the recent hacking done on their official Discord channel. Due to this, 155 players are affected. The Sky Mavis-developed NFT game said that they will reimburse players who lost funds due to the hack.
Axie Infinity Discord channel hacked
According to Axie Infinity, one of their support staff members’ Discord account was compromised as part of an elaborate scam affecting multiple Discord servers.
The attacker tricked the support personnel into sharing his screen and inspecting his Network tab (in Chrome). As a result, the attacker gains access to the support staff’s Discord account, though 2-factor authentication was enabled.
After that, the attacker created a fake Axe Infinity website and used a Discord bot to spam the link across all of Axe Infinity’s Discord announcement channels, announcing an exclusive sale. One hundred fifty-five (155) players clicked on the link and attempted to purchase Axies, but the transaction was a scam.
Players who interacted with the smart contract lost the funds they sent. Axie Infinity examined the smart contract and determined that it does not affect the users’ seed phrases.
Game developer Sky Mavis recommends that those who interacted with the smart contract go to Etherscan (https://ift.tt/3pGpbZY) and immediately revoke access to this site.
Axie Infinity to reimburse players who lost funds due to the hack
Players affected by the hack don’t need to send a report to Axie Infinity for their lost funds to be reimbursed. The developers are scanning the blockchain directly.

Due to this hacking incident, Axie Infinity developers are taking security issues extremely seriously. They are committed to doing the following:
- Reducing the number of people who can tag everyone on the Discord server.
- Contacting Discord and assisting them in addressing this security flaw.
- Reviewing security practices with all team members.
