PH Sibol Men's ML team wins gold at SEAG 2023, takes 3-peat

Sibol men's Mobile Legends team has bagged its third gold medal of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games after sweeping Malaysia, 3-0, in the best-of-five gold medal match on May 14, 2023.

The Philippine national esports team has swept the gold medals at the SEA Games since its inception in 2019, completing a 3-peat win. The recent one is the gold medal it captured at Vietnam SEA Games 2022.

Meanwhile, midlaner Angelo Arcangel, part of the 2019 Sibol ML roster, was the first-ever two-time SEA Games Mobile Legends: Bang Bang gold medalist.

In the group stage of the SEAG 2023 Mobile Legends event, the Philippines recorded a 3-1 score, losing only to Todak-led Malaysian team, which, in turn, they ultimately defeated in the gold medal match.

With their win, the Filipinos bagged the gold medal in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) tournament. Meanwhile, Malaysia took home the silver medal, and Myanmar grabbed the bronze after they defeated the host nation Cambodia in the bronze medal match.

This is the second esports gold medal clinched by Sibol at the Cambodia Games, following the men's Wild Rift victory.

Sibol's MLBB roster for SEA Games 2023, bannered by Bren Esports, is composed of Marco Stephen Requitiano, Angelo Kyle Arcangel, Michael Angelo Sayson, David Charles Canon, Rowgien Stimpson Unigo, and Nowee Macasa. Their coach is Francis John Glindro.

For the uninformed, Southeast Asian Games 2023 (SEA Games 2023) is hosted by Cambodia. It is the third time esports (short for electronic sports) has been contested as a medal event at the biennial regional multi-sport event.

Further, this marks Cambodia hosting SEA Games for the first time. Also, this is the third appearance of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (mobile MOBA game by Moonton Games) at the SEAG.
