Converge, best fixed internet in PH in 2024: nPerf report

Converge ICT was awarded Best Fixed Internet Performance in 2024 by nPerf, besting three other local rivals: Globe, PLDT, and Streamtech.

The internet performance results were based on nPerf web speed tests carried out from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024, as per the report.

Overview

Between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024, the internet analytics firm analyzed 47,237 tests conducted in the Philippines using the nPerf web speed test and app (Android and iOS). These tests were carried out by users from the country's major telco operators: Converge, Globe Telecom, PLDT, and Streamtech. The nPerf speed test works with all types of broadband connections, such as ADSL, VDSL, optical fiber FTTH/FTTB, cable, satellite, Wi-Fi, and WiMAX.

The nPerf score considers the speeds measured, latency, and streaming and browsing tests. It calculates the value of the points for the rates and the latency on a logarithmic scale that better represents the user's experience. nPerf provides accurate data that is independent of Internet Service Providers (ISPs).

Here's the overall distribution of the tests per provider (ISP's share):
  • Converge ICT: 23%
  • Globe Telecom: 19%
  • PLDT: 51%
  • Streamtech: 7%

nPerf said it used a strong filtering method to show real customer experiences on a specific network. It also took steps to prevent probes and measurement robots from affecting the results.

Converge: Top 1 in Download Speed and User Experience

Converge ICT is the top choice for high-speed Internet and excellent service. They excel in download speed, offering an impressive 101.5 Mbps. This ensures a fast and reliable Internet connection, making Converge ICT the market leader for consumers seeking superior service quality.

The download speed shows how much data your connection can receive from the nPerf server in one second. Higher values indicate faster connections. Download speeds above 25 Mbps are classified as excellent and can support activities like 4K video streaming.

According to nPerf, between July 2023 and June 2024, the average download speed in the Philippines was 92 Mbps.

Compared to other Asian countries, the Philippines' average download speed was faster than in Turkey (84 Mbps), Taiwan (83 Mbps), India (71 Mbps), Bangladesh (48 Mbps), and Indonesia (46 Mbps).

Converge ICT subscribers experienced the best mobile Internet streaming performance in 2024 (84 percent). The streaming test measured the quality of video viewing on YouTube. A score between 75 and 100 percent indicates smooth video streaming.

The YouTube streaming test measures video quality at three different resolutions: 360p (Standard Definition), 720p (High Definition), and 1080p (Full High Definition). The overall rating is an average of these three tests, providing a comprehensive evaluation of streaming performance across different video qualities.

In the browser test, Converge ICT is the top provider for web browsing, achieving a 58 percent efficiency rate, which translates to an average page load time of 4 seconds. Scores between 50 and 75 percent are considered suitable for general browsing.

Globe Telecom: Lowest Latency

Globe Telecom is ranked second due to its impressive low latency performance, scoring 72 ms (ping). This makes Globe Telecom ideal for activities like gaming and video conferencing, where real-time responsiveness is essential.

The term "latency" means how quickly the connection responds. Lower latency means faster interaction with content. Latency is measured in milliseconds (ms). A latency of 31-100 ms gives the optimal Internet performance with very little delay.

PLDT: No. 1 in Upload Speed

PLDT ranked third for upload speed, performing well with a speed of 84 Mbps. It also has good download speeds, making it a reliable choice for users who need fast and efficient upload capabilities as well as overall Internet connectivity.

Your device's upload speed refers to how quickly you can send information to the nPerf server. Upload speeds over 10 Mbps are considered excellent, allowing you to easily upload HD videos to the Internet.

Streamtech: Good in Latency and Streaming

Streamtech ranked fourth, but it performs well in terms of latency, coming closely behind Globe Telecom. Despite being in fourth place, Streamtech also does a good job with streaming (74 percent), offering users a good experience for watching videos. This makes Streamtech a good choice for people who care about both low latency and high-quality streaming.

Conclusion

Converge ICT is the top internet service provider in the Philippines. It offers fast download speeds and a great user experience. Globe Telecom comes in second with excellent performance in real-time online activities due to low latency. PLDT stands out with high upload speeds and reliable overall connectivity. Streamtech shows strong capabilities in low latency and streaming.

The competition among these ISPs continues to drive improvements in service quality, benefitting consumers with better and more reliable internet experiences.
