Smart, Converge top Ookla Speedtest Awards H2 2024

Ookla's H2 2024 connectivity report on the state of the Philippines' mobile and fixed networks was released. According to the internet analytics firm, results are based on Speedtest Intelligence data from July to December 2024.

The latest report highlights Smart's dominance in mobile speeds and Converge's leadership in fixed broadband, receiving the Fastest Mobile Network and Best Fixed Network awards, respectively. More details below.

  1. Smart - 72.04
  2. DITO - 59.44
  3. Globe - 48.05

With a Speed Score of 72.04, Smart was the fastest mobile operator in the nation during this period. Smart, with 45.83 Mbps, dominated the median download speed, ahead of second-ranked Globe (31.47 Mbps) and DITO (26.72 Mbps). Smart had the lowest latency at 46 ms and a median upload speed of 7.41 Mbps.

With 86.6% of its samples achieving or exceeding the criterion of 5 Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload throughput, Globe scored the best mobile network consistency. With 86.2% of samples achieving or exceeding the criteria of 25 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload, DITO has the most 5G consistency in the market.

Smart topped both video streaming and game scores (70.87 and 73.89), offering the best video and mobile gaming experiences compared to other local telco providers.

With a score of 3.65/5, Filipino Speedtest users selected DITO as the top mobile service in the country, ahead of its rival telcos.

Regarding regional performance, with Smart as the fastest provider, Metro Manila had the fastest median mobile download speed (63.33 Mbps) among Philippine regions. Second was Central Visayas (37.57 Mbps), then Davao Region (34.3 Mbps) in third.

Overall Connectivity Score

The Overall Connectivity Score assesses the whole user experience ISPs offer by means of several key metrics. It comprises Speed Score, Video Streaming Score, and indicators for browsing performance. With an Overall Connectivity Score of 76.04, Converge was declared the Best Fixed Network in the Philippines during this period.

In this period, Converge was the fastest fixed ISP in the country with a 144.81 Speed Score. Converge had the highest median download speed at 110.11 Mbps, followed by PLDT Home Fiber at 95.01 Mbps and Globe at 89.56 Mbps. Converge led the industry in median upload speed (106.98 Mbps) and latency (12 ms).

There was no top-rated Philippine ISP during this period, with no statistical difference between these fixed internet providers.

When it comes to regional performance, with Converge as the fastest provider, the median fixed download speed in Calabarzon was 95.47 Mbps, the fastest in the Philippines. Metro Manila (94.49 Mbps) and Central Luzon (93.85 Mbps) placed second and third, respectively.
