Globe Telecom has launched its VoLTE (Voice over LTE) roaming services, debuting with partners across Asia-Pacific and the US.
According to Globe, this innovative solution ensures that their roaming customers "can enjoy high-quality voice calls and text messaging even as foreign networks phase out their legacy 2G and 3G infrastructure."
As of July 2024, Globe said it has employed VoLTE roaming to key destinations, including:
- Japan (via Softbank)
- Australia (via Optus)
- Hong Kong (via CSL)
- Taiwan (via Taiwan Mobile)
- Macau (via CTM)
- USA (T-Mobile and AT&T)
The telco also added that Italy is underway via TIM and Wind.
VoLTE enables users to utilize LTE networks for high-definition voice calls, texts, and simultaneous mobile data utilization without relying on outdated technologies. It offers the functionality of concurrently using voice and data, quicker call setup, and uninterrupted connectivity at no additional cost beyond standard roaming rates.
Paula Rivera-Castillo, Head of Globe International Business, said:

Globe customers may encounter connectivity challenges, including the inability to send text messages and make voice calls in countries that have discontinued 2G and 3G networks in the absence of VoLTE roaming capabilities.
Customers only need a 4G VoLTE-capable device, an LTE signal from Globe's roaming partners, and an account that has been provisioned for VoLTE in order to take advantage of VoLTE roaming.
Before traveling abroad, customers are advised to verify the compatibility of their devices and activate VoLTE in their phone's settings.
